Hydrogen Powered...

I am currently working on a project to convert small internal combustion engines to run purely on Hydrogen gas. I will eventually try to work up to converting larger engines, hopefully even a full automobile to run solely on Hydrogen gas.

After experiencing surprisingly good success in the conversion of a 5 hp (~145 cc single cylinder displacement) go-kart engine, I have recently stepped up my efforts to make a full conversion to Hydrogen gas fuel. Converting an engine to Propane is easier than one might think. The go-kart engine conversion was as easy and removing the air filter from the engine’s carbonator and supply the Propane fuel through the air intake by means of a rubber hose.

Using my own Hydrogen Generator, I have successfully been able to start and idle the above mentioned go-kart engine, but little more at this point.

I have personally measured Hydrogen gas output rates up to 9 Liters per minute using my Hydrogen Generator (see production rate chart below).

October 2nd, 2005:
Aluminum: 5 crushed soda cans ~ 65 to 70 grams of usable/reactable Aluminum
Concentration of NaOH solution: unknown.
Starting temperature of the solution: unknown
Collection time: 15 minutes
Total measured volume of Hydrogen produced: 45 Liters
Average Liters of Hydrogen produced per minute: 3.0
Peak production rate: 6.43 Liters per minute

October 8th, 2005:
Aluminum: 5 crushed soda cans ~ 65 to 70 grams of usable/reactable Aluminum
Concentration of NaOH solution: ~100 g NaOH dissolved in 1000 mL of water (2.5 M).
Starting temperature of the solution: ~ 97 °F (36 °C)
Collection time: 25 minutes
Total measured volume of Hydrogen produced: 55.25 Liters
Average Liters of Hydrogen produced per minute: 2.21
Peak production rate: 9 Liters per minute

October 9th, 2005:
Aluminum: 5 crushed soda cans ~ 65 to 70 grams of usable/reactable Aluminum
Concentration of NaOH solution: ~125 g NaOH dissolved in 1000 mL of water (3.1 M).
Starting temperature of the solution: ~ 120 °F (49 °C)
Collection time: 10 minutes
Total measured volume of Hydrogen produced: 35.75 Liters
Average Liters of Hydrogen produced per minute: 3.575 L/min
Peak production rate: 7.5 Liters per minute

Cost is a major influence in this project as to do it and do it right (i.e. a full, safe internal combustion engine conversion to Hydrogen gas fuel and generating system) a lot of money will need to be invested. Donations are very much welcome and appreciated. On the bottom of every page, there is a donation link, if anyone would like to contribute specifically towards this project, your donations will be kept separate and a running tally will appear at the bottom of this page.
